Dawn Blorstad has been a teacher, competitor, choreographer, event Director, judge and mostly Chief Judge at West Coast Swing Events all over the World for over 35 years. She holds 7 World Swing Dance Titles and is in the Swing Dance Hall of Fame. Her laid back fun style of teaching will make you feel very comfortable at learning many new things. She focuses on really making the patterns leadable and styling them for the follows.
You will no doubt laugh in the class and she will make it worth your time to be there!
Pricing and registration
All passes include entry to the Saturday, September 12 social dance.
To provide the best possible experience for all attendees, we are asking that those wishing to take the Novice+ workshops on Sunday meet one of the following criteria:
- At least 6 Novice points in WSDC competition
- You have experience teaching West Coast Swing in some formalized setting
- Explicit permission waiving these requirements (please speak to Caroline Gauthier for guidance)
The invitational level workshop on Sunday is billed separately and is only open to dancers who compete at the Advanced or All-Star WSDC level, or who are Intermediate level competitors who also teach in a formalized setting.

INVITATIONAL WORKSHOP ADDON!
We are excited to offer a special Invitational workshop on Sunday afternoon!
For optimal learning opportunity for all students, this workshop is limited to dancers who meet one of the following criteria:
- Has attained the Advanced or All-Star level in WSDC competition
- Has attained the Intermediate level in WSDC competition AND is an active teacher of WCS in a formalized setting
Workshop costs $40+HST and is billed separately from your weekend pass
Do I need experience?
Yes.
For the all-levels workshops, we expect that you are able to reliably execute basic pushes, passes, and whips as taught in our WCS Basics classes.
For the Novice+ workshops on Sunday, we're taking that a step further and asking that you have at least 6 Novice points from WSDC competitions or that you teach WCS. If you do not meet these criteria due to lack of competitive experience, you may reach out to Caroline to request an exemption. Not all requests will be granted.
Finally, for the Invitational Workshop on Sunday, we ask that you are a competitor in the WSDC Advanced or All-Star Division. If you are a WSDC Intermediate competitor and also currently teach WCS in a formalized setting, you are also invited to attend.
IS REGISTRATION REQUIRED?
No, but prices at the door will be higher, so we strongly recommend registering ahead of time.
Saturday evening passes that include the lesson at 8pm may be purchased ahead of time or at the door for the same price.
Do I need a pass to attend the social dance?
No.
If you have bought any of the available workshop passes, entry to the social dance is included, but if you are not attending the workshops, you may pay at the door as usual.
Can I book a private lesson with Dawn?
Yes! But spots are very limited. To inquire about private lessons, contact Westie Underground directly or speak to Caroline Gauthier and we'll get you sorted.
The workshops, social dance, and all private lessons will be held at our usual studio location:
1574 Walkley Rd, Ottawa
The studio is on the second floor, with parking and building entrance located at the back of the building.
